EPCOR Water Services is hiring a permanent, full-time Senior Analyst, Capital Assets to join the Finance team based at the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant, located in Edmonton’s scenic river valley.

What you’d be responsible for

 

In the Senior Analyst role, you report to the Capital Manager and are responsible for supporting the financial management and reporting of capital projects. Key accountabilities include:

 

  • Delivering accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis for business unit (BU) capital projects by collaborating with project managers. This includes accruals, financial analysis, and demonstrating a strong understanding of assigned projects.
  • Reviewing and optimizing capital asset processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, including Canadian Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Assessing internal controls to mitigate risk.
  • Providing customer-focused financial support by working closely with the BU, Capital Governance & Reporting team, Project Management Office, and project managers.
  • Supporting and administering financial systems such as Oracle Fixed Assets, Oracle Projects, Adaptive, and others. Participating in system upgrades and testing.
  • Preparing journal vouchers with supporting documentation for both IFRS and regulatory sub-ledgers.
  • Reconciling assigned accounts and analyzing for omissions, posting errors, or misclassifications.
  • Managing financial reporting for grant-funded projects, including understanding terms and conditions, coordinating reporting, and performing related analysis.
  • Developing expertise in the differences between IFRS and regulatory accounting treatments for capital items, and processing related entries in Oracle.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members and participants in the Management Development Program (MDP).
  • Driving continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements in the Capital Assets area.

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting the Capital Manager with IFRS research and technical topics.
  • Supporting special projects and other duties as required.
  • Contributing to the annual budget, long-term planning, and regulatory filings, including variance analysis, presentation development, and responding to Information Requests (IRs).
  • Coordinating interim and year-end reporting, audit support, and regulatory submissions.

Qualifications, Experience & Behaviours

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

Education & Certification

  • A degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • A professional designation such as CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) or CFA is a strong asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a professional accounting role.
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including those outside of finance.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Strong ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize large sets of numerical data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS and ability to research technical accounting topics.
  • Knowledge of financial and regulatory processes; experience with Oracle financial systems (especially Oracle Fixed Assets) is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to team initiatives.

Wage: Starting at 50.95 per hour

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week – Monday to Friday
